Lily’s Story

“Coming to college was scary when I first started, it was working in a new environment with new people, but I found out it is different to normal colleges. We get to go on trips and experience travelling on buses. There is written work but there is more hands-on work where we get to be more practical”.

“Being at Route2Work college has helped with my confidence and helped me meet and speak to new people. There is much more independence here, and it’s great that the students always have a say. We get to talk about what we might think will help us in the college”.

“Students get to plan and choose the socials we do. It means we get to spend time with each other outside of college and get to know each other better”.

“College has helped me with many skills. I’ve gained lots from doing my customer service qualification, I’m able to work with others, learn how to work with money, working with the public. I’ve gained knowledge from the coffee morning. We can try out different roles each time like taking orders and making drinks”.

“I can now travel independently from travel training through college. They offer help and experience, they don’t just send you off, they teach you routes, and you get to know different areas”.

“When I started my work experience in a new environment with new people was scary, but the people were really welcoming, and I love it. Being at college helped me find this work placement because you get to try and find out what you want to do. I didn’t picture myself working in a care home when I first started”.

“I started with helping out with the entertainment at the care home but now I work more on the care side with helping prepare meals. My placement has offered me training courses and said once I’ve finished, I might be able to have a part-time job with them”.

“All of the staff at Route2Work are really helpful, there hasn’t been a staff member that I haven’t got on with”.

“I’ve got lots of experience from being here to know I’d be ready for a job when leaving here”.
