The role of the Governing Board is a strategic one, its key functions are to:
- set the aims and objectives for the school
- set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
- set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
- monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
- ensure that the college development plan to meets local/ regional needs both social and economic
- be a source of challenge and support to the principle and head teacher (a critical friend)
Our Board of Governors include:

Trustee / Chair – Andrew Whittaker
Andrew’s connection with South Tyneside Local Authority as a Corporate Lead for Town Centres and Foreshore, offers valuable support for Route2Work College.

Trustee – Stephen Brand
Stephen supported our Route2Work College as a Mathematics Tutor and has subsequently joined our Board of Trustees.

Trustee – Jeremy Cripps
Jeremy has 43 years’ experience of social care work with children and families as a practitioner, manager and senior manager in charities and Local Authorities.

Principal – Andrew Watts
Andrew has held the position of CEO at Groundwork South and North Tyneside for over 10 years, and has been instrumental in establishing Route2Work College.

Trustee – Natalie Connelly
Natalie currently provides account management across a diverse range of businesses within the North East Chamber of Commerce.

Trustee – Heather Morris
Heather is a qualified teacher, and the Education Director at Ripple Education, a local education supply agency providing high quality services to educators across the north east.
